Psychiatry Criticism - The Runaway House in Berlin

In Germany, over 200,000 citizens are forcibly admitted to psychiatric institutions against their will every year. In the case of voluntary admissions, the figure is as high as about 1 million people. Psychiatry helps some people by taking them away from their environment, drugs or other trigger situations for a certain time. However, many people also suffer under the psychiatric system and are forcibly medicated for years with strong medications that can severely limit their life expectancy. In Berlin there is the Weglaufhaus. It tries to be an alternative to psychiatry as a crisis intervention room. We talked to Kim from the Weglaufhaus about the project and psychiatry criticism in general.
