There is music in every kitchen: from the rattling pot to the swinging egg slicer, cooking utensils offer a rich world of sound. Sampling artist Matthew Herbert uses them for a Europe-wide kitchen concert with many guests.

As part of the European Broadcasting Union's Art's Birthday, Matthew Herbert invites musicians and artists from all over Europe to a live improvisation with kitchen sounds. The performers exchange their sounds via the Internet and cook a delicious sound menu in front of an audience.
Art's Birthday goes back to the Fluxus artist Robert Filliou. In 1963, he designated January 17 as the 1,000,000th birthday of art. Since then, this event has been celebrated worldwide with concerts and exhibitions.
